Straight from the heart
In this issue, we bring you awards, rewards and rich dividends. We are also proud to proclaim that our partnership with FedEx has stood the test of time and we have found in each other, the perfect match. And with the heady scent of success, we have also stumbled upon the sweet sorrow of sad partings as in the past few months we bid goodbyes - some final and some not so, to friends and colleagues who have been associated with us for more years than we can care to count and who have stood by us through thick and thin witnessing Jeena’s meteoric rise to fame and fortune. Not all of them have left us by choice and to the duo that were snatched from us by cruel fate; we pray for peace in their final resting place. To the others we wish them joyous tomorrows and the savoir-faire to sally forth with the courage of their convictions.

Rich Dividends

With a well deserved promotion as General Manager, Jeena Pune, Mr. Prafulla Deshpande is all geared up to steer his Branch to greater glory. Prafulla joined us in 1988 as Branch Manager – Jeena Pune and under his able leadership and excellent qualities of team building and staff motivation, Pune Office, which was initially started as a Sales Office has grown from stature to stature. And it was only with Prafulla’s initiative that we added one more feather to our cap by opening a Branch in Goa.

Good luck Prafulla and all the very best in your future endeavors.

Made For Each Other
We are happy to announce that our ties forged with FedEx are growing stronger by the day. Commencing with clearances from Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and thoroughly satisfied with our 100% clearance performance, FedEx has entrusted us with clearances from Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Kolkatta and Chennai as well. Clinching the deal with FedEx for customs clearances in India and breaking previous records set by our predecessors, we have created a new infrastructure especially for courier clearances and are more than ready and willing to handle the ever-increasing volumes with enhanced service levels.

Fun & Frolic
With a song in their souls and a spring in their steps, the staff of Jeena Mumbai set out for their annual picnic earlier this year, sharing the day with none other than Enrico Rossi of Saima, Italy, our overseas partners in trade. Mr. Rossi was on a business trip to India and was grateful for the opportunity to unwind with the head honchos of Jeena. Arrivederci, Senor Rossi, do come again. We know you enjoyed your stay.

What's in a name?

Although a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, we would still prefer a special name for our in-house module for operations and finance which is being developed by our EDP team. Readers are invited to help us christen this baby and suggestions for a suitable name may be emailed to Mr. Homyar Desai, Manager - Systems at hdesai@jeena.co.in

Obituary

Mr. Behram Dumasia Mr. Keki Guzder

Commencing his career with Jeena & Company, Bombay in 1950, Behram Dumasia moved on to start our Delhi Office in 1955. Although he later shifted base in 1970 to Travel Corporation (India) Private Limited, our sister concern, he was closely associated with Jeena throughout the years. Behram passed away on December 7, 2002 creating a void, which will be difficult to fill.

Not content to rest on his laurels, Keki Guzder joined Jeena upon his retirement after a fulfilling career with the Bombay Port Trust. Related to the Katgara family by marriage, his demise is a personal loss to Jeena. Keki passed away on February 22, 2003 and will be sorely missed.

Humour at Work

A sales representative, an administration clerk and their Manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.

They rub it and a Genie comes out in a puff of smoke. The Genie says, “I usually only grant three wishes, so I’ll give each of you just one.”

Me first! Me first! says the administration clerk.

I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.

Poof! She’s gone.

Me next! Me next! says the sales rep. I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Margaritas and the love of my life beside me.

Poof! He’s gone.

OK, you re up, the Genie says to the Manager.

The Manager says, “I want those two back in the office after lunch.”

Moral of the story:

Always let your boss have the first say.
