Straight From the Heart

With new offices at newer locations springing up like flowers in spring, the multi-hued rainbow over Jeena’s garden is radiating a spectrum of colors as wide and varied as the news we bring in this issue. With the world within our reach and not content to expand geographically, we have also triumphed over all odds to create history of sorts with pioneering achievements.

And after a salubrious sabbatical we are back with a bang to regale our readers with a mega issue. Carry on reading!

New Offices
We are pleased to announce the opening of our branch at Coimbatore, headed by Mr. Sathyanarayan (affectionately known as “Sathya” to his colleagues). After a dynamic and successful stint as Manager – Airfreight of our Chennai Office, Sathya now takes over the onerous responsibilities at Coimbatore. Initially our Coimbatore branch will support the Chennai and the Tuticorin branches with existing shipments emanating from surrounding districts and will develop its own business as well. In due course, the Coimbatore branch will equip itself to handle all nominated traffic from that region and we look forward to the day!

Jointly organized by Jeena and Birkart, a charter flight operated from Prague to Chennai, carrying a 40 ton Skoda Turbine for Triveni Engineering. A steel platform on a Volvo Trailer was specially fabricated as per specifications given by the Charter Company. The platform was aligned to the ramp end of the aircraft and the turbine was offloaded by the aircraft winch on to the platform. It was subsequently shifted using two cranes and was successfully offloaded and custom cleared by Jeena Chennai, who was rightfully on cloud nine!

On the Run
Ms. Yogita Attavar & Ms. Ninie Singh from our Corporate Office participated in “The Dream Run” for 7 kms. In the Marathon in Mumbai on 8th January 2005. The Marathon supports “Run for a Cause”, the proceeds of which go towards worthy charities and donations for national & international calamities. And we, as members of the Jeena Family have always contributed in our own little ways…

First Again!
In view of the new directive issued by Customs wherein the CHA is required to file the HAWB details before the flight lands, all Jeena offices were under tremendous pressure to upload the data as the pre-alerts were sometimes not received on time. Corporate Office, benevolent as ever, decided to intervene & solve the issue. Manoj Motiwala, Manager, Express Division (India) and his team decided to take the onus upon themselves and have now successfully centralised the HAWB uploading system from Mumbai itself for the FedEx shipments, giving them an edge over their competitors. And, of course, Jeena is once again, the first Company in the Freight Forwarding trade in India to have achieved this!

  • Hi Team,
    I would like to share this case with all of you:We received a call from a father for a shipment of personal belongings of his young son lost in a car accident in USA.. This was to be cleared on an imperative basis and the parents were in no position to assist, as they were in grief and not very well versed with customs formalities. Being a restricted commodity, the shipment would have attracted heavy duties and taxes as well as fines and penalties. The 'Death Certificate' and a 'Sympathy Letter' addressed to customs was provided by the shipper and the shipment was cleared without any duty, fines or penalties imposed on it. I would like to thank Umesh for his sincere and dedicated efforts to make this happen in such a short time.

Thanks and Regards,

  • The Logistics Department of Jeena made a record movement of Bonded Trucking in a 40 Ft Container of export cargo weighing more than 10 Metric Tons from CWC Coimbatore to Cochin International Airport, which incidentally, received its first container of such proportion!

  • We are happy to announce that Jeena & Company is one of the first Agents in India to have signed a Business Partner Agreement with Lufthansa Cargo AG.

  • Whilst handling the logistics of Pyramid, a department store in Mumbai, the bill of entry comprised of 273 items and ran into one hundred pages – a first for Jeena. Details could not be uploaded in ICEGATE due to the size of the file and had to be done manually.
All Stressed Out And No One To Choke
Jeena Chennai conducted two, HRD-WORKSHOPS in October & November ’04, on Stress Management and Time Management.

The poem alongside aptly penned by Mr. B. K. Anand, G.M. – Chennai, says it all!
We were wondering why the smiles were dying,
Why all around only dark frowns were lying;
So to the trainer we described our mess,
He quickly responded, ”why that’s stress!!!”
“Stress can hit you when you think you’re fine,
It can divert you until you’re all out of line!!
You’ll suddenly discover your spouse thinks you’re ugly,
Or something about you , makes your boss smile so smugly!!”
“Stress also results when some don’t have the time,
To plan their day’s work and be home by nine;
And before they know it, there’s no one at home,
When they reach and find a message on the ‘phone,
Saying ,”you’ve missed your own wedding, so you celebrate alone !!”
“All is not lost !”, the trainer did say,
“Where there is a will there’s always a way!
Come to me one , come to me all,
Let’s get together in a cool hotel hall,
And I shall teach you a plan which will change your life,
Making it free of stress , and removing all strife;
Making you spend time like a miser and accomplishing more
Than you ever thought possible in one life... Not four !!!”

An Innings Declared
After years of loyal and dedicated service, Mr. B. K. Anand, General Manager, Jeena Chennai, handed over the reins to Mr. P.R. Sathishkumar, who takes over the overall responsibilities of the Branch. Mr. Anand, will however continue his association with Jeena and will co-ordinate training, provide updates on industrial and legal issues and support for projects. We wish the two gentlemen success and prosperity in their new endeavours.
“AN INNINGS DECLARED.........!!!!!!”
I still carry vivid memories of that special day
When I was destined to meet a certain “NJK”;*
This was way ,way back in the year 1978
My very first visit to Bombay, in Maharashtra State !
I was poised and ready, sharp and alert
To stand up to mental fencing and not hit the dirt;
But lo and behold to my absolute surprise
I was not “interviewed” but heard him philosophise
On life, on family values, on business ethics and trust
As I thought to myself “If I am being humoured, I must
Somehow bring his focus back to the “interview” first”!
I just couldn’t do it and I sat there aghast
Very conscious of an opportunity fading fast !
And just when it seemed that I had lost my way
My Mentor-to-be had this to say,
“Thank you for coming, you may return to Bangalore
You may join us at Madras and see what’s in store”!
For me the rest is now history , a rapid-fire dream
As I come to the end of my swim against the stream !
I am the stronger for it and I have done my best
To prepare the stage I’m leaving, for a well-earned rest!
My tenure has seen times of both trial and success
But Cyrus, Sam and Homi never backed me any less
Whatever the situation that blew in with Life’s breeze
The Katgaras were always there, may their tribe increase !!
To my colleagues and peers my thanks unlimited
For the camaraderie shown, for the friendship unstinted !
My parting gift is the wisdom that has guided me
Which I borrowed from one renowned for his Philosophy;
John Ruskin was his name and his words have served me well
Especially in times of trouble when the waves began to swell:
I hope these words will inspire you when put to the test
In life’s struggle as you fight to give off your best!!!
“AN INNINGS DECLARED....!!!” meant only for me
And certainly not for the vibrant Jeena and Company
An Institution which will keep growing with vitality
Under the helmsmanship of the Katgara-Three!!
To THE DYNAMIC TRIO featuring Cyrus, Sam and Homi
My sincere prayers for your Health, Luck and Prosperity !!!

(* Mr. Nari J. Katgara, Late Partner of Jeena & Company is referred to as NJK.)

Amidst business colleagues and principal clients, Jeena Chennai bid a fond adieu to Mr. B. K. Anand on March 19, 2005. For better or verse, Mr. Homi Katgara, Partner, Jeena & Company was present at the farewell to say a few words about Mr. Anand.

“Poetry in his veins and a heart of gold;
His legion of good deeds almost always untold.

True to his name, “Anand”, forever spreading joy;
Of his endless achievements, extremely coy.

Daring to tread the unbeaten track;
Soft-hearted within, yet a tough nut to crack.

We wish him good health, contentment and bliss;
His daily interaction, we will sorely miss.

Never a time has he let us down;
Ever a Jewel in Jeena’s crown.

Sweet fragrance of success to his “Rose” does he owe;
And with her by his side, he still has miles to go!”

Mr. B. K. Anand with Mr. Homi Katgara to his right, bidding farewell to his colleagues, at an informal picnic.

Going Places with Fed Ex
To create a better working environment between Jeena and FedEx staff, an all-India Trace Agents Meet was held in Mumbai in January 2005 where a detailed presentation of customs clearance and trace operating procedures, visit to customs to see the actual operations, customer communication and interactive FAQs were the highlights of the event. It was an extremely educative experience for all those who participated in this Meet including the call centre agents of FedEx.

Mr. Manoj Motiwala, Manager, Express Division (India) flanked by Mr. Jacques Creeten, (L) and Mr. Homi Katgara, Partner, Jeena & Company (R ) proudly displaying his Certificate for Service Excellence.

Humor at Work
One day a man was having a conversation with God when his whole life flashed before his eyes as a series of footsteps on the sands of time. He saw that there were two pairs of footprints, but during the most difficult periods of his life there was only one set of footprints. He asked God "You said you will be with me throughout this journey, but why have you deserted me during the most critical times of my life??" to which God answered "Son, I did not desert you, I was always with see only one set of footprints because during those difficult times in your life, I was carrying you"
Another day a colleague was having a similar conversation with his Boss when his whole project flashed before his eyes as a series of footsteps on the sands of time. He saw that there were two pairs of footprints, but during the most difficult times in the project there was only one set of footprints. He asked his Boss "You said you will be with me throughout the project, but why have you deserted me during the most critical times of the project??" to which the Boss answered "Son, I did not desert you, I was always with you. You see only one set of footprints because during those difficult times, I was sitting on your head!!"

Good God!

In our previous issue, mention was made about Mr. Jyoti S Abrol, Dy. Manager Air Exports, Jeena Delhi, topping the DG (Dangerous Gods) Refresher Training Course. The course should rightly read as “Dangerous Goods”. The error is regretted.
